HC directs Maha govt to appoint ATS chief in four weeks
The Bombay HC called the Maha govt lethargic in dealing with state security.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Thursday gave the state government four weeks time to appoint a new chief for the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) which is headless after the killing of Hemant Karkare by terrorists on November 26 last.

The High Court pulled up the Congress government for failing to appoint a new ATS chief even seven months after the death of Karkare.

While hearing a set of PILs on the terror strikes, the court was informed that former ATS chief and Additional Director General of Police K P Raghuvanshi was currently holding additional charge of the ATS as the selection process to replace Karkare was still underway.

The division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice S C Dharmadhikari also expressed dismay over the fact that the state security council set up after the terror attacks has not taken any decision so far regarding the improvement in security apparatus.
