KARWAR: Most of Uttara Kannada district continued to experience heavy rains coupled with heavy winds on Tuesday. Bhatkal recorded the highest rainfall of 68.4 mm in the last twenty four hours, followed by Ankola - 62.2 mm, Joida - 56.2mm, Kumta - 49.2 mm, Karwar - 49 mm and Honnavar - 47.2 mm. Fishermen did not venture into the sea today as well. A house at Bhaire village near here collapsed when a tree fell on it. Small landslides have been reported at Zariwada near here. Revenue officials who rushed to the spot said that there was no cause for worry, while adding that villagers are yet to come out of the trauma of the landslide in October 2009 that claimed 17 lives. Belgaum Bridges SubmergedBelgaum: Eleven bridges in the district have been submerged due to increase in water level in rivers Krishna, Malaprabha and Hiranyakeshi, which was due to incessant rains in Maharashtra and Khanapur and Belgaum taluks on Tuesday. The Malikwad-Dattawad and Boj-Hunnaragi barrages and bridges between Ankali-Savadatti and Karadaga-Boj in Chikkodi taluk have also been submerged due to increased water level in the river Krishna. With water level in the Koyna reservoir touching 105 TMC ft - .96 TMC ft short of its maximum capacity - 2 lakh cusecs of water were released to the Krishna reservoir.
