THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The HLL Lifecare has forayed into the health education by floating a new wing named HLL Academy. It is all set to launch two new courses - Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Engineering and Management (PGDCEM) and Post-diploma course in Clinical Engineering and Management (PDCEM) in January 2012. The courses have been announced in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The two courses were formally launched in Delhi recently, with Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad releasing the prospectus to start admissions. P K Pradhan, HLL.Chairman and Managing Director M Ayyappan were among those who were present. In a statement here,Ayyappan said that the new venture of HLL would bridge the gap between advanced medical field and its application among common man. The courses will cover various aspects of production development, production, quality control and marketing of various pharmaceuticals, medical devices and services. The programmes, having two semesters of six months each, will be held in distance education mode with contact classes. The curriculum has been designed as to meet the requirements of healthcare institutions, procurement service agencies and equipment manufacturers. Ayyappan said that the HLL Academy would function as part of the corporate establishment. However, there are plans to create a separate not-for-profit educational institution under the banner, he added. The other programmes in the pipeline by the Academy are in the areas of social marketing and good manufacturing practices, the statement said.
