BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been observed to be very active in their functioning recently. With activities ranging from planting saplings to covering several potholes in a single day or beating drums to recover property taxes, their dedication has left many people pleasantly surprised. The mayor, at the top of the pyramid, seems to be setting a good example for the other officials to follow.Be it inspecting areas of work or increasing the pace of development work in a few localities, she seems to be following the policy of ‘practice before you preach’ to the hilt.Ask the worshipful mayor about the recent progress that the city has been seeing under her watchful eye and she says, “I understand the problems of the common man when he steps onto the street. With the Namma Metro also taking its toll on the city leaving behind broken roads and the recent rains also harming our work, I realised that change was needed in order to bring about development in the city.” The mayor has spent the last few weeks inspecting to several parts of the city such as Chickpet constituency and Kalasipalyam where she supervised the inspections and instructed her officials to improve their pace of work. The Palike, just last week, had worked on filling up almost 765 potholes in a week, a task definitely worth appreciation.Sharadamma remarks, “We have allotted funds for the filling up of potholes so as to improve the condition of the roads.” She further adds that the development of the city is in the her hands.“It is high time we took charge. The public is very troubled due to pothole laden roads, garbage dumped everywhere and many other issues. This led to many meetings and further discussions with my officials which in turn led to us working on making the city a better place.” On the agenda for Bangalore is a list that the citizens have been waiting to see for a long time indeed.Tenders will soon be called in order to solve the garbage menace in the city.Discussions will be held to improve the state of pourakarmikas in the city and so on and so forth. She says, “We will soon hold discussions about the many problems that had to be looked at before but haven’t been done so yet.Regarding the pourakarmikas, the Palike will see what can be done to make their lives better.” With ingenious ideas such as drumbeating and the supersonic pace of work that the city has been witnessing recently, we sure hope that the BBMP continues its good work.
