I-Day celebrated with fervour in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai

Yadav honoured many government employees with certificates for rendering superior service.Following this, students from various schools staged cultural programmes on themes including Tamil language, communal harmony and unity in diversity. Early in the day, he hoisted the national flag on the ramparts of the Vellore Fort. District Revenue Officer (DRO) E Sundaravalli, Superintendent of Police (SP) I Eswaran and other government officials took part in the programme.In Tiruvannamalai, district collector Dr Vijay Pingale hoisted the national flag in the district sports complex ground and took salute from squads of the police, fire service personnel and NCC at the ceremonial parade.The collector honoured freedom fighters and distributed financial aid worth Rs 1.56 crore to as many as 428 persons.DRO S Valarmathi and SP R V Ramya Bharathi also participated in the programme.first published:August 16, 2012, 10:33 ISTlast updated:August 16, 2012, 10:33 IST
