A 21-year-old IIT Delhi student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room in the national capital, the police said on Wednesday, while also mentioning that no suicide note was recovered from the spot. The deceased was identified as Kumar Yash who was an M.Sc second year student from Jharkhand’s Deoghar.
He had visited the IIT Hospital on Tuesday for psychiatric treatment, the police said.
HOW DID THE INCIDENT COME TO LIGHT?
The incident came to light as the police received a PCR call at around 11 pm on Tuesday when the caller mentioned about a suicide by an IIT student in Aravali Hostel Room Number — D57. “A staff was sent to the location immediately. The room was closed from the inside but his friend and IIT staff broke the window to enter his room,” a senior police officer said”.
The student was found hanging in the room using two towels. Yash’s body was brought down by his friend and the staff member, the official said.
Yash was rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital in an IIT ambulance where he was declared brought dead by the doctors, the police said.
The body of the deceased has been preserved in the mortuary and his family members have been informed about the incident. “The hostel room where the deceased committed suicide has been inspected by a mobile crime team,” the official said.
‘NO FOUL PLAY SUSPECTED:’ DELHI POLICE
The police stated that no suicide note was found at the spot of the incident, however, revealed that Yash was undergoing psychiatric treatment and had visited the IIT Hospital yesterday as well, as per his medical health report.
“He was given treatment and has had an appointment with a psychiatrist on October 29. Statements of his friends have been recorded. No foul play has been suspected in this matter,” the police said. Further inquest proceedings are underway.
