BANGALORE: Any occasion in the city calls for a ‘Public Display of Adulation’ and the inauguration of the highly anticipated Namma Metro is no different as banners and posters congratulating politicians have mushroomed in the city. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which  is otherwise quick in bringing these ‘illegal’ posters down, has given these posters its ‘blessing’ drowning its ambition to ‘beautify’ the city in time for the big event. Most roads along the Reach 1 of the Metro line, to be inaugurated on October 20, is now playing host to all the congratulatory messages of politicians and some others. This trend is generally seen during festival seasons or when local party workers welcome their senior leaders to the city. Sources said that BBMP charges Rs 4  per sq ft for such advertisements and confirm that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has not coughed up the necessary fee for the advertisements. Also, many of these hoardings are erected by individuals as well, they said.Joint Commissioner (East) Shivashankar, however, said, “This is a government function and they (BMRCL) would be allowed to put up hoardings and posters.” He added that the posters put up for the event will be removed without fail by Thursday evening.
