London: Sitaaray - India's Grill, a leading eatery in London that combines the two greatest Indian exports -- its cinema and cuisine -- has won the prestigious London Restaurant Award 2008.
Sitaaray, a concept designed and operated by New Delhi-based Old World Hospitality, competed with 60 other restaurants and is the only Indian eatery amongst the six winners of the Evening Standard '60 Under Pound 60 Award.
"Being recognised by the leading industry awards in London is not only a high accolade for a restaurant that is operated by an Indian company but is also a proof of the restaurant's commitment of providing value for money without compromising quality," said a beaming Managing Director of Sitaaray, Rohit Khattar.
Sitaaray, launched in early 2007 and located in Covent Garden, has lived up to its name and brought the Indian film industry to life, not only through its decor but by playing host to some of the biggest icons from the Bollywood.
The Evening Standard '60 Under Pound 60' Award represents a list of local, independently-owned restaurants where two people can comfortably eat two courses each and share a bottle of house wine for 60 pounds or less.
The judges, London's top food critics, handpicked 60 local restaurants to compete for the award and the final shortlist of six restaurants was selected by London diners and readers of Evening Standard newspaper in an online vote.
Sitaaray is an authentic North Indian Grill set against a stunning cinematic background celebrating 75 years of Indian cinema.
In India, the Old World Hospitality operates Habitat World at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, Epicentre Gurgaon, two hotels as well as 13 restaurants.
