Even as the Mumbai police sought more time to question TV tycoon Indrani Mukherjea in connection with her alleged role in murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, her lawyers claimed that she has been quizzed for long enough.
"Approx 80 to 90 hours of questioning has been done. There is nothing remaining for which her custody is required," her lawyers argued in court. They also said that despite the court's order, "not even one minute of private legal consultation has been allowed." Indrani's lawyer has moved an application to allow meeting her privately, without police presence.
Mumbai police has also included Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code in the remand application stating that Indrani attempted to kill her son Mikhail Bora as well. The remand application also says that there is suspicion of more people from outside state being involved in the act
Along with Indrani, the Mumbai Police is also seeking more time to question the other accused in the case - her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai. All three have been produced in court for a hearing on their custody extension.
Indrani's lawyers have also claimed that her face appeared bruised when they met her. During the hearing which is underway, they are likely to allege that she was roughed up by police officers during questioning.
Earlier in the day, Indrani and Sanjeev's daughter Vidhie Mukherjea was in court. After their divorce, Vidhie was reportedly adopted by Indrani's current husband and former Star India CEO Peter Mukherjea.
