CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed all medium, heavy goods and passenger vehicle owners to fix speed governors on their vehicles within a time frame. Passing interim orders on a public interest writ petition by lawyer V Kasinatha Bharathi, a division bench comprising Justice D Murugesan and Justice K K Sasidharan directed the State to issue a notification stipulating that no medium or heavy goods or passenger motor vehicle should be registered by the Transport Authorities concerned unless the same were fitted with speed governors, in compliance with Rule 118 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. The notification should also include the maximum speed of the vehicles, the bench said.The State should direct all the transport operators of omni buses, plying in the State with a State permit or with an all-India permit, to fix speed governors within six weeks from Thursday, i.e. within December 22, the bench said.
