New Delhi: Union Home Ministry on Tuesday discharged an Indian Police Service (IPS) Probationer from service for failing to clear physical tests despite being given multiple chances.
MoS Home Kiren Rijiju informed Lok Sabha on Tuesday that action was taken against probationer Salunkhe Deepak Atmaram on March 22nd and an order for discharge was issued under rule 12(a) of the IPS(probation) rules, 1954.
Salunkhe is a probationer of 2010 batch.
Between 2010 and 2016, three probationers failed to clear the physical exams. While two - Kushum Puniya, 2010 batch probationer of Jharkhand cadre, and Kumar Gautam, 2011 batch of West Bengal cadre, cleared the test in re-examination, the third one Salunkhe failed the test.
In July last year, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had terminated the service of both Kusum and Gautam but the order was recalled after the two made a representation to President.
Kiren Rijiju told Lok Sabha that special examinations were conducted for Punia and Gautam and they cleared the test.
Physical test of IPS officers includes physical proficiency test, cross country running, yoga, swimming and unarmed combat.
Probationers also have to clear tests in drill, weapon training, map reading, ambulance drill, motor mechanism and driving.
