Ishrat case: SIT may seek more time for probe
An interim progress report in the case was submitted by the SIT on Wednesday.

Ahmedabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case is expected to ask for more time to finish its conclusive report.

The SIT is likely to make the request when the case comes up for hearing in the Gujarat High court on Friday.

An interim progress report in the case was on Wednesday submitted by the SIT in the Gujarat High Court.

The report was submitted following directions from a division bench of Justice Jayant Patel and Justice Abhilasha Kumari. During the last hearing in the case on September 10, the bench had asked the three-member panel, headed by IPS officer RR Verma, to submit its final report by Wednesday.

During the September 10 hearing, the high court had given about a month's time to SIT to complete investigations and submit the final report determining whether the encounter was fake or genuine.
