I-T conducts raids on bureaucrats, minister's kin

Bhopal: In a major crackdown against defaulters, Income Tax Department on Friday conducted simultaneous raids at several places, including the residence of the brother of Madhya Pradesh Health Minister, prominent builders, state home secretary and former Health Department commissioner, other senior officers.

The raids, which began early on Friday, were simultaneously conducted at over 60 places and continued till late evening.

Apart from Jabalpur, the raids were carried out in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Neemuch and several other places by Income Tax officials, with 40 teams of police officials accompanying them.

The raids were conducted at the residence of Dr Rajesh Rajora, who was earlier posted as Heath Commissioner in the state and, at present, is the state home secretary.

The raids were also carried out at the premises of another retired IAS officer of the rank of Chief Secretary UK Samal, two builders and their close associates.

Also raided were health director Dr Ashok Sharma’s Bhopal and Indore residences.

In Jabalpur and Neemuch, raids were conducted at the residence of the minister's kin and Rajora's relatives.

The I-T officials confirmed that the raids were conducted at these places but added that it is not possible for them to reveal its details at the moment.

It may be recalled that last year too the I-T officials conducted a raid at the residence of then health director Dr Yogiraj Sharma, following which he compulsorily retired from the service.
