New Delhi: Late Yash Chopra might have decided to hang his boots after the completion of his last film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, but Shah Rukh Khan never knew that the veteran director meant every word of it. And, with his untimely death, his statement sealed the fate. “When Yash ji told me that he would not make another film, I thought I misheard him. Despite his final decision, deep down I thought that we would be able to make him change his decision. But, at that time I didn’t understand that he meant it with such finality”, said Shah Rukh at a press conference.
‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, which is set to hit the theatres this Diwali, is already creating raves with its big star cast and promising trailers. But, for Shah Rukh the success of the film matters more as it is late Yash Chopra’s last film. “For me, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ is more of a feeling than a film. After the death of Yash ji, the film has become even closer to me. Like Yash ji’s other films, it is a classic love story and it will touch people’s hearts.”
Where Shah Rukh and Katrina’s chemistry has already become the talk of the town, Katrina, who plays a typical idealistic Yash Chopra heroine in the film, is happy that she has been directed by late Yash Chopra. “When Yash Chopra approached me for the role in the film, I did not even sit for a narration. I said an instant yes. It was only after four months that I read the narration. And, I am happy with the kind of response that I am getting from the trailers of the film.”
While this is Katrina’s first film with late Yash Chopra, for Shah Rukh Khan the association goes deep down. Late Yash Chopra has given Shah Rukh some of his most memorable films and the actor has all the faith in the late director. Despite ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ facing stiff competition from Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar’ at the box-office, Shah Rukh is unfazed by the entire legal controversy surrounding the releasing of the two films.
Reports of Bollywood being divided into two groups over the release of the respective films are doing the rounds but Shah Rukh feels that both the films have their own audience. “It is not unfortunate that two films are releasing together. Yash Chopra has always released his films on Diwali and we are continuing with the same this year. We all are being professionals and both the films want to make the best from Diwali.”
