Jaitley hits at Amarinder Singh, terms him 'poor script writer'

Hitting back at Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh for the "160 club" remark, senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Thursday said the former Punjab Chief Minister was a "poor script writer".

Amarinder had earlier in the day alleged that Jaitley, who is taking on him in the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, was not loyal to his party and was part of a group which wanted to restrict BJP tally to 160 seats to queer the pitch for its PM candidate Narendra Modi.

"I will say he is a very poor script writer. Anybody who knows me and who has watched my politics and my statements in the last two years (knows) I was amongst the first ones in BJP to realise that there was groundswell in favour of Modi.

"And therefore, I started expressing this opinion publicly and within the party," Jaitley told reporters.

To another query regarding raking up the 1984 Bluestar Operation, Jaitley said, "He raked it up and I responded. He sits in the company of those who are the guilty persons of 1984 and he wanted to ask me questions.

Amarinder had warned Jaitley against seeking political mileage by raking up the Operation Bluestar issue.

"Let me tell you (Jaitley), your party, the BJP and your ally Badal (Chief Minister Parkash Singh) are as much responsible for the tragedy of Operation Bluestar and terrorism as anyone else," Amarinder said. "Punjab has put this tragedy behind and moved ahead."

"I maintain civility in public discourse but at the same time I will be aggressive with my views not in my language," Jaitley said and added there was no need for him to raise the issue.

"And if he raises it, don't expect me to keep quiet," the BJP leader said.
