HYDERABAD: Panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy, after a gap of nearly four months, stepped into the state secretariat on Thursday and got down to business, calling a meeting with officials on improving drinking water facility in rural areas.
Jana Reddy, who is one of the two chairmen of the Telangana Congress Steering Committee, has been keeping away from the secretariat and involved in organising meetings to mobilise support for creation of Telangana state. Speaking to reporters at the secretariat, he said he had blended the two responsibilities that were thrust on him with aplomb and felt that he had had done a good job. "As a minister, I never allowed the work to suffer. Even though I did not visit the secretariat, I used to clear files from home," he claimed. As regards his role as a chairman of the steering committee, he said he did not shirk work and was always in the forefront to bring pressure on the central government to take a decision on Telangana. It was because of this pressure that the Centre had quickened the process of consultations on the Telangana issue, he said.
