New Delhi: According to Chennai's Appolo Hospitals, the next 24 hours are crucial for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's recovery. Doctors at the hospital say the ailing Tamil Nadu chief minister will take 24 hours to respond to the treatment. Meanwhile, they are monitoring her vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, and body temperature.
Jayalalithaa"continues to be very critical," a day after suffering cardiac arrest, and is on various life support systems, Apollo Hospitals said on Monday.
Jayalalithaa, who had a cardiac arrest last evening "continues to be very critical and is on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and other life support systems," Apollo Hospitals Chief Operating Officer Subbiah Viswanthan said in a statement.
"The Honourable Chief Minister is being treated and closely monitored by a team of experts," he added.
68-year-old Jayalalithaa has been put on ECMO, a heart assist device, and was under the watch of experts, including cardiologists. Here are the updates:
- Jayalalithaa suffered a massive cardiac arrest at 5 pm on Sunday. Doctors administered Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for 40 minutes, then she was put on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) (a heart assist device).
- A health bulletin issued by Apollo Hospitals On Monday said the AIADMK leader's treatment has been complicated due to infection in her lungs.
- The Tamil Nadu chief minister has been kept on external heat assist and kidney support devices.
- "Treatment is slow as Jayalalithaa is diabetic...Closely monitoring her health condition", said Apollo Hospitals.
- 70 percent of her heart has resumed function, hospital authorities may brief media after 5 pm.
- Centre sends 4-member AIIMS team to Chennai as Apollo asks for a team of doctors to help them improve Jaya's health condition. The team includes experts like Dr GC Khilani, Dr Anjan Trikha, Dr Sachin Talwar and Dr Rajiv Narang.
- Hospital authorities said Jayalalithaa is being provided treatment as per standard international procedures.
- Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Monday updated media about Jayalalithaa's heath conditions. Nadda said, "Centre will extend all support to Apollo Hospitals".
- Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has been rushed to Chennai, he spoke to Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on Jayalaithaa's health condition.
