PUDUCHERRY: Jewellery shop owners on Kosakadai street, on Thursday, staged a demonstration and resorted to a road roko to oppose an autorickshaw stand that came up overnight. The shop owners demanded the removal of the auto stand and said that it would further congest the traffic on the street.The Jewellery shop owners association leaders Rajendran and Dandapani led the agitators. Periakadai police inspector Kannan and sub inspector Sundarmurthy rushed to the spot and held talks with them.The CITU-affiliated auto rickshaw drivers’ union leader, T Murugan, also reached and requested the shop owners to withdraw the agitation saying that the stand would help bring more business for them.But the shop keepers, who were adamant, withdrew their agitation after the auto rickshaw drivers removed the board and withdrew the autos stationed on the street.
