BANGALORE / PENUKONDA: Commenting on the accident involving Hampi Express at Penukonda early Tuesday morning, Union Minister for Railways Mukul Roy, on the way to the site, declared that Railways would provide jobs to relatives of the deceased alongwith a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of deceased and Rs1 lakh for passengers who sustained critical injuries and Rs 50,000 for those who sustained minor injuries. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the next of kin of deceased besides Rs 25,000 rupees for injured and free medical treatment. Similar relief was announced by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who also visited the site. Divisional Railway Manager S Mani told Express, “Prima facie, it appears to be a human error on the part of the locomotive pilot. The Commissioner for Railway Safety is conducting an enquiry.” The CRS would commence investigation on May 24 or 25.
