THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The report submitted by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K Jayakumar, who probed police officer Radhakrishna Pillai’s firing at SFI activists in Kozhikode, appeared in a section of the media on Sunday. It was the first time that the report submitted in October last year and the highlights of which were briefed by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, appeared in the media in its original format.Though the report said that firing could have been avoided and the police officer’s assessment of the ground situation was wrong, it did not suggest any disciplinary action against Pillai. The government saved the face by relieving Pillai from the charge of law and order and later he was transferred following protest from the Opposition.Pillai opened fire at agitating SFI students during a protest at a government engineering college in Kozhikode while he was holding the post ofKozhikode Assistant Commissioner.
