New Delhi: Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi kept up his relentless attack on Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar after New Delhi failed to win the rights to host the Asian Games in 2014, saying he wasn't at all surprised with the Korean city of Incheon winning the bid eventually.
Kalmadi told reporters that the Sports Minister's remarks right at the outset of the rights being given away didn't prove good for the hopes of the Capital, as they lost out. Instead, the South Korean lobby became stronger as those supporting India chose to go with the Incheon, at the Olympic Council of Asia's General Assembly in Kuwait on Monday and Tuesday.
Mani Shankar Aiyar, though, refrained from further jibes but insisted that it was the credibility of the Korean bid that finally got them through.
Aiyar added that he was himself disappointed with New Delhi losing out in the race. The Capital had last hosted the Asiad back in 1982.
"As (Indian) Olympics Association President it is Kalmadi's job to organise mega events but as Sports Minister it is my duty to elaborate what I believe to be a proper sports policy," Aiyar said.
