Security has been beefed up ahead of the release of Jawaharlal Nehru University Student's Union President Kanhaiya Kumar from Tihar jail on Thursday. As per sources in the Delhi Police, Kanhaiya may be secretly taken out of the jail.
Apprehending the possibility of "clashes" following Kanhaiya's release, Delhi Police has issued an 'advisory' to all districts, traffic and PCR units asking them to maintain strict vigil, especially in and around JNU and Delhi University campuses.
In a letter written by the South DCP on Kanhaiya' security cover, all the District Commissioners of Police have been asked to provide security and deploy traffic police personnel wherever Kanahiya goes. Commissioners of New Delhi and North Delhi has been asked to provide extra security. Kanhaiya is expected to address speeches and events after his release, which might lead to clashes between the Left student groups and ABVP.
Kanhaiya's lawyers are expected to be at Tihar Jail around 4.30 pm and give release order to Deputy Superintendent of jail number 3 where he's lodged.
Kanhaiya Kumar, who was arrested on February 12 in connection with a sedition case over a controversial JNU event, was on Wednesday granted interim bail for six months by the Delhi High Court which said that he has to cooperate in the ongoing investigation and has to present himself before the investigators as and when required.
