BHUBANESWAR: The Crime Branch (CB) on Saturday arrested two beneficiaries in the land scam at Shaympur mouza. Gopal Mohapatra and Laxmidhar Swain, the accused, had secured about 17 acre in their favour allegedly in collusion with Revenue officials. The CB that has been investigating the case, which was first registered in Capital Police Station in 2005, produced them in a local court. They have been remanded in 15-day judicial custody. Earlier, the CB had arrested tahasildar MC Mohanty, assistant settlement officer Artatrana Mallick and amin BK Mohanty in connection with the case. Mohapatra and Swain had connived with the Revenue officials to transfer about 17.47 acre near SUM Hospital here. They had, in turn, sold the land to other persons. The current market value of the land will run into several crores of rupees.
