THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The last day of the Assembly session on Friday witnessed senior leaders from the ruling as well as Opposition benches tendering apologies in the House. First, Deputy Opposition Leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan withdrew his controversial statement against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy that he made at a public meeting in Pathanapuram the other day. The Chief Minister was “acting like a dumb person who has swallowed steam cake (pottan puttu vizhungiya pole)”, he had said.Kodiyeri said he was tendering an apology to the CM if it had hurt him. However, Chandy said he did not have any problem. Kodiyeri asked the ruling benches whether Government Chief Whip P C George was ready to apologise for his recent controversial statements. George said he was tendering an unconditional apology to the Speaker. But he was not ready to apologise for a speech he had made at Pathanapuram recently. On Thursday, George had told mediapersons that the Speaker had little power outside the Assembly.Although George tendered an apology, the Opposition created an uproar.
