Hours after a video went viral purportedly showing a fire tender at the senior Maharashtra cadre IPS officer Archana Tyagi’s residence in Dehradun to allegedly supply water, the police released a detailed note saying the vehicle had gone to “control” leakage from an LPG cylinder.
The video shot in June has surfaced now. In the 50-second clip, a fire engine can be seen standing outside Tyagi’s residence on the busy EC road. A pipe is also visible leading into the premises. In the same video, a woman is heard saying, “Kya IPS ke ghar paani bharne fire brigade aa jati hai (Is a fire tender available to supply water for an IPS official)?” People are heard questioning cops, but they are not replying.
Dehradun has faced high temperatures this year. Several residential colonies, including Tyagi’s EC road area, have witnessed severe water shortages.
Netizens reacted angrily to the video, raising questions about the alleged misuse of authority. News18 approached Amit Sinha, additional director general of police (ADGP), seeking details of what actually happened.
“We will inquire into what led the fire tender to reach the residence (of Archana Tyagi),” he said. Interestingly, shortly after this, Dehradun police came up with a clarification.
A note from Ajai Singh, senior superintendent of police (SSP), said the incident dates back to June 15. It said the fire station received a complaint about an LPG gas leak, and within minutes the vehicle was sent.
“The team, after reaching the spot, drizzled water at the LPG cylinder, the condition was brought under control,” the SSP wrote.
Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Archana Tyagi hails from Dehradun. She used to teach at a local college before clearing the UPSC civil services examination. A Bollywood film, Mardaani 2, was inspired by her life.
