THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Mechanised Labour Bank (Agro Labour Force), which has been shaped under the Kerala Agro Industries Corporation as a proposed solution to the perennial shortage of labour, will formally be launched here on August 29.Apart from overcoming the labour shortage, the initiative is intended to prompt youngsters to take up agriculture as a vocation by making use of the best technological inputs and undertake training in various farm equipment.The scheme, formulated under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, will be introduced in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Kannur districts in the beginning.The launching ceremony has been scheduled on the premises of Kerala Agro Industries Corporation at Kottakakam at 3 pm on Monday. Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan will launch it. Transport-Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar will preside over the function. Additional Chief Secretary and Agriculture Production Commissioner K Jayakumar will explain the scheme on the occasion. Mayor K Chandrika, Shashi Tharoor MP and District panchayat president Ramani P Nair will speak on the occasion.
