Srinagar: Even as security was beefed up ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the valley, militants carried out a series of grenade attacks which left 25 people injured, including 10 security personnel on Monday.
The grenade attacks in Rainawari, Babarbar Shah and Fatehkadal localities of the city came a day after an audacious strike on a Congress rally on Sunday in which five persons, including two policemen, were killed.
Five policemen and seven civilians received splinter injuries in the grenade attack on security personnel posted at the Kathidarwaza Chowk in Rainawari area, said the official sources.
Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
In another strike, ultras hurled a grenade on a police party at Baba Dawood Khakhi bridge near Babarbar Shah in downtown Srinagar, wounding two policemen and five civilians.
The grenade was hurled around 1535 hours IST after which the militants fled the scene taking advantage of the panic that had followed the explosion.
Meanwhile the all-party Hurriyat conference has decided not to attend the prime minister's round table conference calling the whole exercise meaningless.
The third grenade attack took place on the security forces in Fatehkadal area, in which six persons, including three CRPF personnel, got injured.
