New Delhi: The third and the last militant who was holed up inside the mosque in Kulgam in South Kashmir has been killed, after the security personnel shot him dead early this morning.
He was among the three militants from the Hizbul Mujahideen who had held five civilians hostage since Sunday morning.
Out of the total three militants, two were killed on Monday. The security used tear smoke shells to smoke out the three Hizb militants out of their hiding and killed two of them, police sources said.
Another militant managed to flee and took shelter in one of the minarets of the mosque and engaged the police in an encounter for nearly an hour after which he too was eliminated.
Senior police officers H K Lohia said all the five hostages were unharmed and no damage was done to the mosque in the gunbattle.
However, the five hostages were freed on Monday.
