In a shocking incident in Assam’s Margherita town, a mother has been arrested for the brutal murder of her five-year-old son. The child’s mother, Supriya Bhattacharya, has been taken into custody after she confessed to the crime.
After committing the heinous crime, the mother reportedly filed a missing complaint of her child with the police, prompting an investigation into the matter. According to the complaint, the child went missing on the day of Durga Puja Navami. Following the investigation, the police discovered his body in the Budhidihing river on Monday, October 14.
According to police, Supriya took her son out in an auto rickshaw around 9 AM on the day she claimed he went missing. She returned alone later that evening, with her clothes covered in mud. Investigations intensified after police spoke with the auto rickshaw driver, leading them to uncover the grim details of the case.
It was revealed that Supriya had taken her son to a riverbank about a kilometre away from their home and drowned him.
The child’s father resides in Sivsagar, while Supriya lived with her mother in Margherita. Supriya Bhattacharya has been taken into custody as police probe the case further.
