Mudukulathur tense after group clash

PARAMAKUDI: In another incident of violence related to people who were headed to pay respects at the Emmanuel Sekaran memorial, a verbal duel broke out between the group and villagers after they parked their vehicle at Sokkanai village near Sikkal, where they went to offer a prayer in a temple. This then erupted in a clash with both groups attacking each other.In this attack Patchammal, Karuppan, Sunmugavel and Marimuthu of Sokkanai village sustained deep gashes and were rushed to the Mudukulathur GH.The situation continued to be tense in Mudukulathur and nearby villages after the clash. Buses were stopped and all business outlets downed shutters. A large posse of police has been deployed in the area. Meanwhile, Information and Technology Minister R B Udhayakumar, AIADMK party state special representative in New Delhi A Ashokan, ex-Minister Anwar Raja and other functionaries of AIADMK arrived to pay their respects at the memorial.Ex-minister and Thiruvadanai MLA Suba Thangavelan, Ramanathapuram MP Ritish Kumar and other functionaries of the DMK also paid their respects.Functionaries of various parties and outfits, including Samathuva Makkal Katchi, Thiyagi Emanuvel Peravai, Veera Mallar Peravai and Mallar Kazhagam also came to pay homage. Singai Jinnah, district secretary of the DMDK also visited the memorial along with party cadre.
