THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lt Gen P S Bhalla, Director General, National Cadet Corps (NCC), will confer Honorary Colonel rank on Vice-Chancellors of Kerala and MG Universities - S Jayakrishnan and Rajan Gurukkal respectively - in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday. Lt Gen Bhalla will arrive in the state on a four-day visit on Tuesday. The Vice-Chancellors are being conferred the honorary rank ‘’in recognition of their valuable contribution in promoting NCC activities and encouraging brilliant and dynamic youths to join NCC,’’ the NCC said in a statement here. On Wednesday, Lt Gen Bhalla will pay a visit to the National Integration Camp which is underway at Kollam. He will meet Air Marshal S P Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Air Command here on the evening of the same day. On Thursday, the general will call on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and later, will visit the NCC Directorate (Kerala and Lakshadweep), where he will be briefed about NCC activities by NCC Deputy Director General Brigadier C Sandeep Kumar and other Group Commanders. Republic Day: A Republic Day contingent of Kerala and Lakshadweep NCC consisting of 104 cadets will leave for New Delhi to attend the Republic Day Camp 2012. The cadets will be accompanied by Contingent Commander Lt Col I P Mishra and ANOs. Cadets from all 17 NCC directorates are attending this year’s camp. ‘’In order to compete with these teams in NCC activities and events at Delhi and to uphold the image of the state, adequate training has been carried out by the Kerala contingent for more than three months,’’ the NCC said in a statement.
