BHUBANESWAR: Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik and DGP Manmohan Praharaj will attend the meeting, convened by the Union Home Secretary in Delhi on March 12, to discuss the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC). Announcing this here on Saturday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik hoped that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would convene a meeting of the chief ministers soon to discuss the issue. Naveen had expressed disappointment over the convening of officer-level meeting to discuss the NCTC issue in a letter to Singh on February 29. Naveen had requested him to call a meeting of the chief ministers as the NCTC needed discussion at the highest level. “Earlier I had requested the Prime Minister to convene a meeting of the chief ministers and today also I made the same request to discuss the NCTC issue,” the Chief Minister told mediapersons here. He had said in the letter to the Prime Minister that issues raised by several chief ministers relate to national security, terrorism and extremism which need deliberation at the highest level. “All of us know about the effects of terrorism, the clear examples of which are the attacks in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru,” he had said. Naveen said it is imperative that instead of a meeting to be chaired by the Union Home Secretary, an immediate meeting of the CMs may be called to address the concerns of the states on this very urgent matter regarding the security of the nation. The PM had assured the chief ministers in his letter shot off on February 21 that the Union Home Minister will address the issues raised by them.
