PURI: A corporation for preservation of environment in adherence to CRZ norms for sustained beach tourism development, comprising all the beach settlements of the State, needs to be formed, felt experts and NGOs participating in a seminar on beach tourism development organised by the Beach Protection Council of Odisha here on Tuesday. The proposal made by noted social activists Jyotiprakash Mishra was later echoed by VP Upadhyay, Director, Ministry of Environment and Forests. He said since development is inevitable along the coastal areas, a corporation on the lines of Mumbai, Kerala and Goa should be formed to regulate the growth as per the CRZ norms.Involvement of numerous authorities, municipality, development authority and Department of Environment and Forest on the beach often leads to lack of coordination which affects execution of work. There are 26 beautiful beaches along the 482-km beachline of the State. With proper management and development of tourist - amenities, the State can top the country’s earnings from beach tourism, Upadhyay added. Subhakanta Prusty, a scientist with the State Pollution Control Board, said three S - shelter, sanitation and safety - were the prime requirements for tourism development.Puri Civic Body Chairman Santilata Pradhan, SP Amitendranath Sinha, Tourism Officer Bijay Kumar Jena, the president of Hotel Association of Puri R K Dasmahapatra, Paradip Municipal Chairman Manjulata Jena and Beach Protection Council president Jagannath Bastia and chiefs of Gopalpur and Konark coastal bodies were present.
