Burhanpur: Days after Burhanpur police dropped sedition charges against the 15 Muslim men for cheering Pakistan’s win over India in Champions’ Trophy final, the said complainant in the case appeared before media on Tuesday with startling revelation that he never complained to police against anyone.
Shahpur Thana in-charge Sanjay Pathak, after the arrest of 15 men from Mohad village in Burhanpur, told media persons, “One Subhash Koli from Mohad village had complained that some local men chanted pro-Pakistan slogans, so these men were arrested and booked under sections 120 (B) –amounting to conspiracy and 124 (A) –amounting to treason.”
However, police backtracked a few days later and dropped sedition charges but slapped them with section 153 (1) of the IPC instead.
The complainant Koli emerged before media persons on Tuesday and claimed that he never complained against anyone.
“I had gone to the police station with my father to help out a local youth who was arrested by police on charges of raising anti-India slogans,” Koli told newsmen. He added that police snatched his mobile phone and mentioned his name in the complaint registered by them regarding anti-India slogans raised in the village Mohad.
I landed at the police station at 11 am but the police had arrested them by 10am, Koli alleged saying the police claims could be exposed once location and mobile phone call details of his phone are verified.
Superintendent of Police Burhanpur RRS Parihar did not comment on Koli’s claims and just said that the accused were booked for treason but later the section was dropped as no substantial evident was found in probe.
