THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: No ‘VIP’ was involved in the Kiliroor sex scandal, though Kuttanad MLA Thomas Chandy and channel honcho K P Mohanan were questioned as part of the investigation, Ernakulam Range IG R Sreelekha told the CBI Court here on Tuesday. She made the deposition on the basis of the statement given to her by Shari S Nair, the victim in the Kiliroor sexscandal, on October 9, 2004. Sreelekha, the then DIG, Ernakulam Range, took charge of the case on October 7, 2004.Initially, she was denied permission to take Shari’s statement by Dr Shankaran, who was treating her at the Matha Hospital, Thellakom, near Kottayam. Later, with the help of the hospital authorities, she managed to get the girl’s statement. The victim, who was found to be very weak, told the officer that Omanakkutty, the first accused in the chargesheet who later turned approver, told her to take everything in the "right spirit’’ when she complained about the sexual abuse.Omanakkutty, the sister of Shari’s mother Sreedevi, advised her to use her body to get an entry into the tinsel world and fame and treat sexual harassment as "part of the game’’ when the girl expressed her inability to suffer, the IG said. The accused toured various places along with the girl including Palani, Guruvayur and Kumily. At Palani, Omanakkutty forced her to drink some juice, the IG said.Shari stated that no one molested her at Alappuzha. The hospital, where the DIG took her two-and-a-half-hour-long statement, was never mentioned in the statement.Sreelekha also informed the court that she had arranged for the autopsy after the girl died on November 13, 2004. The court commented that the chargesheet given by CBI was not clear compared to the one given by the Kerala Police, when the defence counsel cross-examined Sreelekha whether anybody’s statement was taken before taking the statement of Shari.Thomas Abraham, K S Suresh Kumar and P L Joseph, all police officials of Kottayam at the time of the incident, also deposed before the court on Tuesday.
