New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said he will seek opinion of the public before implementing the next phase of odd-even scheme in the national capital.
Kejriwal said his government will launch a "structured plan" the next day inviting people's suggestions on implementing the second phase of the road rationing scheme.
"Our MLAs will hold meetings in their constituencies to to get opinion on implementing the second phase of the odd-even scheme," Kejriwal said.
This announcement comes a few days after Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai said the second phase of the odd-even curbs may be back after March when schools finish their exams.
The chief minister said the first phase of the experiment -- held for 15 days from January 1-- was a success and that it was being repeated "keeping in mind people's wishes."
Various studies have drawn different conclusions on whether the odd-even trial helped in checking pollution, but most were unanimous that it decongested traffic.
One of the worries of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government ahead of the second phase was that the scheme might unintentionally prompt people to buy two cars which would only add to the traffic woes.
The government has also asked for 3000 buses to add to the DTC's public transport fleet by the year-end.
