On I-Day prisoners demand freedom

BELGAUM: Prisoners of the Hindalaga jail here have urged Minister Umesh Katti to put pressure on government to continue the tradition of releasing prisoners with good conduct during Independence and Republic Days. Katti, who was the former prisons minister of the state, visited the jail after hoisting the National Flag, here on Monday. The prisoners told the minister that those who have completed ten-year term and noted for their good conduct were not released for the three years. They argued that they should be given an opportunity to lead a new life in the society. Katti said that the government is in favour of release of such category prisoners and assured of pleading the Governor on their behalf.
