BANGALORE: There is some good news for the residents of Subbanna Palya and Byteguntpalya who used to suffer a lot owing to piles of garbage dumped at a vacant site. Now, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has developed the site into a playground and park with an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore.Earlier, the stench emanating from garbage would make it impossible for people to pass through the area. Now, it is pleasant to see a playground and park at the same place. If everything goes as per plan, the place, that was considered one of the most neglected plots, is set to become a favourite destination for the residents of Subbanna Payla, Byteguntpalya and surrounding areas, since this will be the only park in the locality."The playground is an ideal place for children to play. The park will be a boon for residents of surrounding areas who do not have any place to relax,’’ said P Pandurangan, president, Kammanahalli Ward Congress Committee. The residents said that it was the initiative of K J George, MLA who wished to transform the garbage dumping place into a playground and park. "We have been using the park in the mornings and evenings. We are extremely grateful to MLA George for taking this initiative. Now, we are free from garbage menace and have the privilege of spending some time at a beautiful park and playground for children,’’ said Kumar, a resident of Subbanna Palya. It was said that Bangalore Development Authority took up the development of park as per the request of MLA George and instructions from the then BDA Commissioner Siddiah.BDA had spent Rs 84.75 lakh to develop the park and playground while the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike had spent Rs 99,49,906 for the construction of the U-shaped RCC storm water drain adjacent to the park.Expressing happiness over the development work, MLA George said that the vacant place was vulnerable to encroachment too."I am happy that residents have finally got a beautiful park and playground,’’ said George.Meanwhile, M C Srinivas, Corporator of Kammanahalli Ward has said that more than 80 per cent of the development work at the park has been completed. "We are waiting for the right time to plant saplings at the park to develop greenery. If everything goes as per plan, the park will be opened officially for the public within two months,’’ said Srinivas.Indeed good work done by the BDA and BBMP.
