Own a Refrigerator? You Cannot Have An Ayushman Bharat Card. Check Eligibility Conditions

The Ayushman Bharat program, one of the most effective schemes of the Narendra Modi government, aims to provide health security assurance to the poor and lower middle income groups of the country. The scheme has benefited about 50 crore people in the country so far.

However, if anyone wants get themselves registered under the world’s largest public health assurance scheme, they should take note of certain criteria set by the government for the Ayushman Bharat program.

Beneficiaries should belong to the Scheduled Caste or Economically Weaker Section category. Moreover, their income should not be more than Rs 10,000 every month. People who do not have a pucca house or their own farm land are eligible to reap the benefits under this scheme.

Those who possess an Ayushman Bharat card can avail a wide array of treatment facilities. It covers disease examination, medical advice, services provided before hospitalization, ICU and non-ICU treatment, equipment used in treatment, lab tests, bed facilities, food and drink facilities in the hospital and treatment expenses for the next 15 days after being discharged from the hospital.

Currently, a family gets a cover of Rs 5 lakhs per year for hospitalization across public and private empanelled hospitals in India.

Recently, in view of the increasing cost of medical treatment, there has been discussion on increasing the coverage amount to Rs 10 lakh. If this materializes, it will benefit 50 crore people in the country and about 5 to 7 crore elderly people.

Let us take a quick look at some of the conditions that can make one ineligible from applying for Ayushman Bharat card:

• If you own a bike, car or an auto rickshaw.
• If you have a motor boat for fishing.
• If you use mechanical equipment for farming.
• If you are doing a central or state government job.
• If you have a Kisan Credit Card with limit exceeding Rs 50,000.
• If you work in non-agricultural enterprises managed by the government.
• If you earn more than Rs 10,000 every month.
• If you own a fridge or a landline phone at your residence.
• If you have a concrete house or own more than 5 acres of agricultural land.
