GULBARGA: Though the state government transferred 140 Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) officers, many of them with promotions, on September 17, they have not taken their new charges, thanks to Pakshamasa (Pitrupaksha). In the Hindu calender, a fortnight prior before Navaraatri, is considered inauspicious. Most Hindus prefer to rearrange important events. A number of KAS officers too preferred to start their new assignments after Pakshamasa that ended on Tuesday. According to sources, out of the 140 transferred officers, 13 are from the Gulbarga region comprising of Bidar, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary districts.Of these 13 officers, only four have taken up their new assignments and a woman officer, Kavita Mannikeri, who was the AC of Yadgir and received a promotion as joint director of Women and Child Welfare Department, got relieved from the assistant commissioner’s post. Eight officers have not joined their duty till Tuesday. Some of the officials said as Pakshamaasa just ended, they would take up their new assignment within a couple of days. Enquiries revealed that the file of transfers of the officers was ready in the last week of June itself. Due to political uncertainty, the then CM B S Yeddyurappa could not sign the file of transfers of the officers.
