BANGALORE: The High Court on Monday imposed a cost of Rs1 lakh on Bata India for wasting the court's time by pursuing the appeal though the Supreme Court had issued an adverse order against the company.
The Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice H G Ramesh observed, "If you had told us about the Supreme Court's verdict, the case would have been dismissed in two seconds. It hurts to notice that you have wasted much of this court's valuable time by suppressing the fact."The Bench directed Bata India to remit the cost with Bangalore Mediation Centre within three months and directed the registry to post the case for recovery if the cost is not remitted within three months.

The Industrial Tribunal had given a verdict in favour of the workers against whom Bata India had initiated disciplinary action for protesting and it was upheld by the SC in 2009 even before the case came up for hearing in the High Court. The Bata India's counsel did not mention about SC's verdict and continued to argue his case when the case came up for hearing on Monday.
