Plea against GO on auto registration
Plea against GO on auto registration

A petition was filed on Thursday in the AP High Court challenging GO 90 issued by the transport department on Wednesday for the registration of 20,000 new auto rickshaws with ‘permission to ply’ within the the city.

Nagole Auto Drivers Welfare Association president K Srinivasa Chary, in his petition, submitted that the impugned GO will adversely affect the lives of poor drivers in the city.

In fact, there are no sufficient LPG and CNG filling stations to provide fuel for the existing 77,000 auto rickshaws. Without making sufficient and proper arrangements for fuel filling, the government has issued the GO, he pointed out.

The petitioner further submitted that thousands of auto rickshaws are being seized by the private financiers for non-payment of monthly instalments by auto drivers.

New drivers will lose their source of livelihood once the metro rail project is completed, he noted.
