Motor Worker’s Union (AITUC) has demanded the government to revise the autorickshaw-taxi fares by immediately convening a meeting of the central-trade union organisations in the motor vehicle sector.
The demand was raised in the wake of the increase in the prices of diesel and petrol in the premium grade.
It was on January 14, 2011, that the government had last revised the fares.
Now the minimum fare for autorickshaw is `12 for 1.25 kilometres with `7 for every additional kilometre. And for taxi car, Rs 60 for three kilometres with Rs 8 for every additional kilometre.
Though the Chief Minister had assured to increase the auto-taxi fares within a month in a meeting convened on August 12, it did not happen even with the increasing diesel/premium petrol charges, they alleged.
