Once Polavaram and Pranahitha-Chevella are made national projects, it will help the State immensely, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said here on Friday.
Addressing the people who lost lands for Polavaram project at Devaragoindi village in West Godavari district during his Indiramma Bata, he said that national project status means 90 percent of the project cost will be borne by the Central government.
He said the state government had spent Rs 4,700 crore so far on Polavaram project, which requires an estimated Rs 16,000 crore to complete. Once the project is ready, it will irrigate lakhs of acres and pave way for the development of the region, he said, adding that in all likelihood it will be completed in five years time.
He said the state is indebted people who had sacrificed their land.
“We have offered a good rehabilitation package for the displaced and it has been brought to my notice that Polavaram is facing drinking water problem.
It is really sad to notice that the village close to Godavari river is facing such issues. We will take measures to address the issue immediately,” he said
