PALAKKAD: Deputy Superintendent of Police (Intelligence) Safar Ali Khan  submitted a report on the beating up of a youth in  police custody to the  Additional Director General of Police Hemachandran,  on Sunday. The report states that Sajeevan, 21, was picked up from his house in Chandranagar on Friday evening. He was kept at Palakkad South Police Station till Saturday evening without recording the arrest or charging a case.It is illegal to keep a person for more than 24 hours in custody without producing him in court. The report also states that Sajeevan was beaten by a civil police officer on Friday night and by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Prasobh on Saturday evening.  Sajeevan is recuperating at the Medical College Hospital, Thrissur.  Baring body-pain and difficulty in bending knees, he is doing fine.   Meanwhile, police sources said that Sajeevan had been continuously pestering a 17-year-old girl by calling her on cell phone.The youth, used to purchase her cell phones and had even  begun to intimidate the parents of the girl. The police have registered a case aganist Sajeevan for intimidating the parents.Cases would also be registered under the Information Technology Act for taking SIM cards in the names of others and using them personally.The police said that there is another case in the Malampuzha Police Station aganist Sajeevan for pestering  a woman.
