CHENNAI: The government’s decision to postpone the implementation of the Uniform School Education (USE) is acceptable as long as its efforts to correct and improve the scheme come through, Puthiya Tamilagam chief K Krishnaswamy has said. He urged the government to take steps to strengthen the fundamentals of the existing education system, as it would prove crucial to the USE’s success.“There is nothing wrong in waiting a little longer to secure our future generation and create true equity in education. The previous government’s scheme had equity only in name, and it important to correct that,” he said. “The scheme should be very clear about the standard it intends to match, be it ICSE, CBSE or Matric. After all, the aim is to raise the quality of education.” He also underlined the need to train teachers to the level of competence required for the USE’s successful implementation. Besides, he called for the improvement and maintenance of infrastructure. “We should give parents no reason to want to put their kids in any other shool,” he said.
