HYDERABAD: The moves for unity of Left parties have created a rift between CPI state secretary K Narayana and CPM state secretary BV Raghavulu. Reacting to CPI national secretary AB Bardhan’s statement during his recent visit to the city that the unification of the two major Left parties was imminent, CPM state secretary BV Raghavulu said in Khammam that though CPM favoured the idea, the actual merger would take some time. Responding to Raghavulu’s comments, CPI state secretary Narayana said in Guntur on Sunday that Raghavulu was opposing the merger. ``Merger of the Left parties is necessary. Raghavulu is talking against merger. CPM leaders are behaving like dictators as only they want to remain in national politics. Raghavulu’s remarks are intended to dilute the Left unity moves,’’ he said.Retorting to Narayana’s pungent remarks, Raghavulu said on Monday, ``Merger is to be decided at the national level. There is a difference between bourgeois parties and Left parties and it will be applicable in merger too. Even Bardhan said merger is not so easy. The CPM has its own policies and same is the case with the CPI. If there is any similarity in the policies of both the parties, then they will come still closer and work together. The decision should be taken by the parties at the national level and not at the state level.’’
