THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At a time when creches are turning out be more than a boon for working parents, here is some good news for many parents who are still hunting one for their wards. They may try the creche to be opened by the Southern Railway, Thiruvananthapuram Division, at the Railway Quarters - Anwar Garden - at Poojappura on Monday. For, this facility can be availed of not only by the Railway staff, but also by the general public. The facility has been built by the Division and will be managed by Southern Railway Women’s Welfare Association. The particular quarters already has a nursery school being run by the Railways for many years now, which also admits children of non-Railway staff. The opening of the creche holds much importance for the Thiruvananthapuram Division because it would be the last official function here of the present Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Dutt Sharma, who is getting transferred to Mumbai. He will be inaugurating the creche at 12.15 am. “The Railway Board had given directions to open creches at Division Headquarters. So, we went ahead with the plan to open creches in Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai,” said Rajiv Dutt Sharma. The creche is located at a serene spot away from the main road, so there is ample safety for the children, said a statement issued by the Railways. The working hours, fee structure and other aspects will be finalised after the inauguration, it is learnt. Creches have either been opened or will start functioning at the Divisions at Palakkad, Trichy, Madurai and Belgaum too. It is to be noted that Technopark and the KSEB had opened creches on their premises sometime back. But they were primarily meant for their staff only, unlike the Railways’ creche, which can be utilised by the general public as well.
