Stressing on the importance of generic medicines, Chief Minister Raman Singh has directed all district collectors to ensure their availability at government hospitals and Red Cross Society-run medical stores in the state.
During a video-conference with the district collectors on Sunday, Singh asked them to hold a meeting of member doctors of Indian Medical Association (IMA) and representatives of Chemist Associations soon to inform them about the guidelines issued by the state government in this regard, an official statement said here on Monday. Urging the doctors to recommend generic medicines to their patients, the CM said that these medicines are cheap in comparison to branded medicines available in the market and there is no difference in their quality.
He directed the district officials to ensure availability of generic medicines at the government hospitals and Red Cross Society-run medical stores in adequate quantity.
Singh also asked the collectors to ensure availability of rapid diagnostic kits in the government hospitals and adopt new techniques to treat patients suffering from malaria. He further stressed on using the new ACT (artemisinin-based combination therapy) medicine for the treatment of malaria patients.
