THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The refresher course for the coaches of the Kerala State Sports Council got off to a smooth start at the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE), Kariavattom, on Monday. The training, conducted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), was inaugurated by M A Vaheed MLA at a function presided over by Padmini Thomas, president of the Kerala State Sports Council. The inauguration of the refresher course for the coaches and physical education teachers of Lakshadweep and the summer coaching camp organised by SAI and LNCPE was also done at the event. The refresher course is being attended by 130 coaches of the Sports Council in 24 sports disciplines. The course is meant to refresh the technical know-how on the coaching methodology. There will be scientific sessions on imparting latest scientific back-up and developing the coaching method in the State on a par with international standards. A press statement here said the refresher course is a new venture and is expected to raise the standard of sports coaching in the State. The faculty of the course includes Prasad Rao (Dronacharya awardee, kabaddi), Virendra Kumar Shori (athletics), Mallick (wrestling), H V Nataraj (I/C Academics) and Achutha Kurup (former volleyball coach).
